A Glimpse into What’s Possible Together
Dear Rugby Family,
What we’re setting out to do is not inexpensive, nor is it easy. Let me assure you of one thing: the upside of uniting as a global rugby community will far outweigh the downside—even if we only achieve a fraction of our vision.
To have a fighting chance, we need a world-class team. A multidisciplinary group of experts, driven by one goal: to unlock the maximum value from the collective, with consent, for the benefit of the grassroots game.
The Power of Collective Value
Individually we can add value to prospective advertisers, sponsors, and partners—at local, regional, national and global levels.
- A local business will derive benefit from sponsoring a local club that’s key to its community.
- As a collective rugby communities represent significant value for advertisers and sponsors beyond local markets.
The Status Quo: the majority of this value is leveraged by the international and professional game through broadcasting, events, publishing, and commercial rights. Yet grassroots clubs and organizations—those at the heart of the rugby ecosystem—hardly benefit from this value.
Our Plan: Turning the Model on Its Head
How? By disrupting the applecart and redefining how rugby’s value is leveraged. We’ll create a media channel, solely for the grassroots and community game, to flourish from the bottom up.
We call it the “Small World of Rugby”—a dynamic ecosystem of:
- History, Community, and Camaraderie: A shared space where rugby roots are celebrated.
- Connections, Content, and Stories: A place to get together, with no unnecessary middleman, to enable mutual growth and support.
Imagine a forest of redwood trees, standing tall and strong, their roots intertwined and nourished by each other. That is the vision of the Small World of Rugby: a thriving community where we all grow by supporting one another.
This Is Not Rocket Science—The Tools Are Already Here
The expertise, technology, and skills needed to achieve our objective already exist. All we need is commitment and unity.
Two Key Challenges:
- Our Commitment to Grassroots Rugby: Are we serious about ensuring the grassroots game to survive and thrive again? Can we assist in fulfilling rugby’s promise and potential to transform lives and communities across all playing nations?
- Setting Aside Ego and Self-Interest: Can we transcend individual interests and borders to live up to rugby’s values for the greater good of the game and all its stakeholders?
The Riches and Richness of Togetherness
There is strength in unity. By mobilizing as few as:
- 300,000 rugby clubs and organizations
- 9 million+ players
- 500 + million active fans
we can transform the rugby landscape. Together, we can achieve what seems unfathomable. Unless things change, nothing will ever change.
This is a small step for each of us, and a giant leap for grassroots rugby.
A World of Opportunity
If we can unite a mere minority of the game’s supporters and active fans, there will be limitless opportunities to redefine how we fund, support, and grow grassroots rugby.
Our vision doesn’t stop at funding or exposure. It extends to creation of a global community nurturing the grassroots game, supporting its stakeholders, and unlocking untapped potential.
The Time to Unite Is Now
By coming together as players, supporters, administrators, and businesses—more than leaving a legacy for future generations—we’ll rewrite history and be an unstoppable force for good.
The tools and opportunities are at hand. All that’s needed? To take the first step. Together.
One for All. All for One.
